Administrative History
The payment of these bounties was authorized by Chapter 184 of the Laws of 1863 and Chapter 29 of the Laws of 1865. Filing procedures were outlined in General Order No. 6 issued by the Adjutant-General's Office on February 28, 1865 and Circular No. 1 issued by the Paymaster General on March 1, 1865.
Scope and Content Note
This volume records applications for state bounty monies received by the Paymaster General's office between January, 1876 and December, 1882.
Each entry in the register provides the following information: date application was received; name; company; regiment; bounty claimed; and remarks. The remarks usually consist of brief statements concerning date of enlistment, desertions, dates of previous bounty payments, or length of service. At the end of each month, the number of applications received and amounts awarded are totaled.
