Scope and Content Note

This series consists of administrative and research files maintained by the Schenectady County office of the Federal Writers' Project.

These files were used to prepare several completed and uncompleted publications on communities in Schenectady County. They contain information on the history of the county and city of Schenectady, genealogical data on early families in the county, and property ownership genealogies in Schenectady City's Stockade Area. The information in these records is mostly in the form of field workers' notes, typed essays by field workers, and extracts of local records. Several research files of this material were maintained to be drawn upon by editors preparing publications.

A small quantity of correspondence of the Schenectady County supervisor is also included. This correspondence concerns: personnel, equipment, and other general administrative activities; progress in completing forms and photographs for the Historical Album of New York State project; and acquisition of photographs of industrial establishments for the New York State Picture Book project.

Also in the series are progress and work reports. These include narrative reports of work completed on various projects, weekly work reports detailing each workers' assignments on a daily basis, and monthly reports of mail sent from the office.
