Summary:
Approximately 300 images depict mineral mines, quarries, cement plants, terra cotta factories, and stone crushing plants; natural features of specific communities, industrial development; geologic formations; and geological exhibits. Many were made by Geological Survey geologists to illustrate State Museum publications.

Scope and Content Note

Many of these photographs were made by Geological Survey geologists to illustrate State Museum publications; others may not have been published in any form. Many are labelled with location, subject, date, name of photographs and publication name; others are completely unidentified.

These photographs show the following: mineral producing facilities, such as mines, quarries, cement plants, terra cotta factories, and stone crushing plants; natural features of specific communities, often showing industrial development (e.g. Little Falls, Herkimer County); geologic formations; and geological exhibits. Most photographs are between 5" x 7" and 8" x 10" and are mounted on matboard. Most negatives are approximately 3" x 4" and are unlabelled.
