Scope and Content Note

This series contains lists of draftees from Albany induction stations and a history of North Salem (Westchester County) during World War II which includes lists of servicemen from that town. These records were sent by local historians who wished to document their area's contribution to the war effort.

The history of North Salem was compiled by local historian Fred C. Warner in 1947-1948. Entitled "1941-1945, North Salem in World War II," it contains a brief service record for each of the over 100 men who served from North Salem and details the town's home front activities such as salvage collection, war bond drives, blackouts, civil defense, rationing, and Red Cross projects.

The Albany induction station lists, dated 1944 and 1945, contain the names of individuals inducted at Albany, most of whom were Albany residents. However the lists also include individuals from other local towns such as Troy, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Saratoga Springs, as well as a few individuals from downstate New York (e.g. Poughkeepsie) and western Massachusetts towns. The lists provide: name; address; draft board number; order number; serial number; and date of induction.
