Scope and Content Note
The series consists of correspondence relating to requests for information about various aspects of the Oak Orchard Feeder at Medina, New York. The letters are primarily directed to offices of the engineer of the Western Division, within whose district the feeder was located, and who had responsibility for its administration and maintenance.
Records pertain to: location of contracts, deeds, or other records relating to the feeder; power rights and ownership rights along Oak Orchard Creek with regard to easements; possible improvements to the feeder, including hydraulic development of streams entering into or issuing from the canal; and a typescript history of the "Tonawanda and Oak Orchard Creek Feeder and Tonawanda Swamp" prepared in connection with a report on claim for damages in 1916 (see series A1469, Historical Abstracts concerning Lands of the Western Division, Erie Canal, for a copy of this history).
