Scope and Content Note
The series consists of a card file that indexes contracts, structures, and related appropriations for work on the Western Division of the Barge Canal. The file was probably maintained by the Department of Public Works in the course of administering the state's canal system.
The file is in two sections, relating to the eastern (boxes 1 and 2) and western (boxes 3 and 4) parts of the Western Division. These files may have been kept in different offices and merged at some unspecified time. Eastern section files relate to many different contracts (numbers appear in the upper left corner of cards) and may be arranged by "general" and specific types of Barge Canal contracts. Western section files relate primarily to contracts 40, 48, 76, 47A, 49, and 77, and index contracts for borings done in Wayne County, New York.
The location of the materials indexed is not known; the materials might not be in the holdings of the State Archives.
