Scope and Content Note

Microfilmed records include tax rolls for several towns and villages in Schoharie Mounty. Information typically includes name of property owner, location of property, description, amount of land, assessments, exemptions, amount and purpose of general taxes, special taxes, and date of payment. Some include tax warrant and tax schedule, and some have separate listings for non-residents and residents. Also microfilmed are county clerk's registers of marriages and returns of births, marriages, and deaths.

Microfilmed tax rolls include rolls for the towns of Blenheim (1868-1942), Carlisle (1866-1942), Conesville (1860-1942), Esperance (1927-1938), Fulton (1864-1942), Gilboa (1862-1942), Jefferson (1909-1942), Middleburgh (1886-1942), Richmondville (1907-1914), Wright (1934-1939), Summit (1864-1890); and villages of Richmondville (1977-1992), Schoharie (1987-1991), and Sharon Springs (1922-1992). Other microfilmed records are county clerk's registers of marriage licenses and certificates issued in the county (1908-1935), and returns of births, marriages, and deaths for all towns in Scoharie County (1847-1849 only).

Custodial History

This microfilm was produced by a grant awarded and administered by SARA's Local Government Records Services for the 1994 grant cycle. Grantees submitted two copies of each roll of project film: a silver copy for secure storage at the State Records Center; and a duplicate copy, containing only non-restricted records, for public use at the State Archives research room.

Use copies of rolls containing restricted records are not maintained by the Archives, and are withdrawn from public use at time of accessioning. Security copies of such rolls are held at the State Records Center and are subject to restrictions under law.

Restricted film was marked and use copies were weeded at time of accession; 99 rolls of master negatives (security copy) were sent to the State Records Center (TL 95-43). Sometimes restricted and non-restricted vital records (pre- and post-1880) appear on the same film roll; since the records cannot be accessed separately, all such rolls are restricted.
