Administrative History
The resolutions were made pursuant to the 1821 Constitution which abolished the Council of Appointment and transferred the appointive power to the governor subject to senate confirmation. The resolutions were filed in the secretary of state's office probably as a result of Chapter 12 of the Laws of 1778 which made the secretary the clerk to the Council of Appointment.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of official copies of Senate resolutions, confirming the governor's nomination of candidates for appointive office. The resolutions contain the appointee's name, residence, office, date of resolution and the signatures of the president and clerk of the senate.
