Scope and Content Note

This series consists of five bound volumes of typed senate resolutions confirming governors' appointments for notaries public. The resolutions are one page in length and contain the date, counties for which notaries were appointed, length of term, expiration date of term and the signatures of the president and clerk of the senate. Attached to the resolution are typed carbon copies of the names and addresses of all of the notaries appointed. Under the provisions of Chapter 197 of the Laws of 1823, the governor was authorized to "nominate, and with the advice and consent of the senate, appoint all . . . public notaries."
