Scope and Content Note
This series consists of copies of certificates, which verify the results of elections held throughout the various counties. The records were generated pursuant to Chapter 250 of the Laws of 1822, which required the county clerk to deposit in the Secretary of State's office a true copy of the certificates of canvass compiled by the county board of canvasses, which were filed in the county clerk's office. The certificates provide the name of the county clerk, location of the county clerk's office, name of the chairman and secretary (usually the county clerk) of the county canvass board, date of the election canvassed, the offices up for election, the names of the individuals who constituted the county board of canvassers, and the number of votes cast for each candidate for each office contested.
Each volume is indexed according to the name of the county. The first volume of the series consists of printed forms which were filled out by hand and then bound together. The second volume was compiled entirely by hand. The third volume also includes the names of the other members of the county board of canvassers. This series is available on microfilm (AFM #202, Reel 2).
