Scope and Content Note

This series consists of records of inmates admitted to the prison and their physical condition, kept by the prison physician. The first two registers give date of admission to prison; name; number; county where convicted; how long in jail; crime and plea; trade or occupation; habits; height; color; age; where born; if could read or write; education; religion; number of previous convictions; how and when discharged; marital status and address of wife or relative; hair and eye color; description of forehead, chin, nose, ears, and eyebrows; scars or marks; health; if past history of insanity or broken bones; if has scrofula, consumption, or syphilis; if parents living and if were temperate; and a notation if transferred, paroled, or discharged. Beginning with the third volume, the physical description (except for height and age) is omitted, and the only reference to physical condition is a word or phrase such as "good," "fair," "all right," "not very good," "bad lung." The fourth volume and those following also include how employed in prison. The volumes are numbered 2 and 4 through 10.
