Summary:
This series consists of a "Journal" kept by a prison employee at the Clinton State Prison. The account is for expenses of an employee who traveled frequently, escorting convicts, escapees, or parolees to prison, and investigating offers of employment for parolees, etc. Entries include expenditures for railroad and carfare, meals, hotels, and other travel expenses. Accounts are totaled monthly. There is no indication of the position or name of the employee.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a "Journal" kept by a prison employee at the Clinton State Prison, pursuant to the Prison Law of 1909, which required the agent and warden to cause to keep "regular books of entry" in which all receipts and disbursements were recorded. This volume contains an account of expenses of an employee who traveled frequently, escorting convicts, escapees, or parolees to prison, and investigating offers of employment for parolees, etc. (Expenses incurred in the transfer of prisoners were deemed incidental prison expenses by the Prison Law.) The entries give expenditures for railroad and car fare, meals, hotels, and other travel expenses. Accounts are totaled monthly. There is no indication of the position or name of the employee.
