Scope and Content Note

This series contains minutes of the Board of Prison Inspectors quarterly meeting at Clinton State Prison and monthly reports of the Inspector in Charge for the prison. The prison inspectors were required by legislation of 1829 to "keep regular minutes of their meetings and proceedings, which shall be signed by them, and preserved in the prisons respectively." The minutes and reports concern all aspects of the administration of the prison, such as changes in personnel, the manufacture of iron, and financial accounts. The books also contain copies of letters and other documents.
