Scope and Content Note

This series contains final accounts, explanations of extra work, receipts, and the resident assistant and division engineer's affidavits to final accounts. The records were generated by both the Superintendent of Public Works and the State Engineer and Surveyor pursuant to the general directives outlined in each contract awarded. The final accounts contain the name of the contracting firm, date of contract, description of items purchased or services performed, quantities, contract price, price of material used, totals, list of partial payments made by the Superintendent of Public Works to the contractors (date of draft and amount) and a duplicate receipt (Superintendent of Public Works' name, amount, and the date and description of the construction project).

Some of the final accounts are accompanied by explanations of extra work performed. These provide reasons why certain specifications were not allowed or why certain alterations were made during construction. The explanations are usually a typed carbon copy attached to the final account. The resident assistant and division engineers' affidavits are sworn statements attesting to the veracity of the final accounts. They are dated, signed and notarized. The division engineers' certificate contains the signature of the State Engineer and Surveyor.
