Administrative History
The Board of Consulting Engineers superseded the Advisory Board of Consulting Engineers that was created by the original Barge Canal Law (Chapter 147, Laws of 1903) and later abolished by Chapter 736 of the Laws of 1911. In its place, the State Engineer and Surveyor was empowered to employ occasionally, with the approval of the governor, one or more consulting engineers. These engineers reviewed both completed work and proposed projects. They reported directly to the State Engineer and Surveyor.
Scope and Content Note
This series contains typed carbon copies of reports and recommendations compiled by the Board of Consulting Engineers and submitted to the State Engineer and Surveyor. The records deal with work already performed on the Barge Canal as well as proposed work. The reports provide fairly detailed information on canal construction as well as the administrative processes involved in building the Barge Canal.
