Administrative History

The Board of Consulting Engineers superseded the Advisory Board of Consulting Engineers that was created by the original Barge Canal Law (Chapter 147, Laws of 1903) and later abolished by Chapter 756 of the Laws of 1911. In its place, the State Engineer and Surveyor was empowered to employ occasionally, with the approval of the governor, one or more consulting engineers. These engineers reviewed both completed work and proposed projects. They reported directly to the State Engineer and Surveyor.
