These are letterpress copybooks of manuscript or typed letters from the State Engineer and Surveyor regarding: the processing of applications for land grants, usually for land under water, by individuals, businesses, or towns; scheduling of land sales; requests to newspapers or publishers to publish notices of land sales; notice of hearings on applications to work mines; replies to requests for copies of maps or other records of sales and surveys; requests for copies of maps, memoranda, receipts, or other records needed by the State Engineer and Surveyor; and instructions on how to prepare maps to be submitted with land grant applications.
