Scope and Content Note

This bound volume contains receipts and other financial records related to the granting of ice permits on canals in the Eastern Division of the canal system. The volume includes receipts for payments from individuals and businesses to which the Superintendent of Public Works granted permits to cut ice from canals and waterways. A table includes date; name of individual or business to which permit granted; canal or waterway; and area grantee is authorized to use. Also included are records of expenses for surveying the canals. These include the name of the surveyor; services for which paid (usually "services as agent"); and amount paid.

A few loose, blank ice permit forms are also found in this series. These give permission to an individual to cut and take ice from the canal during a specific year. These forms also lay out the terms and conditions for cutting ice in the canal.
