Scope and Content Note
These volumes contain letterpress copies of outgoing correspondence created by State Architect Lewis F. Pilcher. The entirety of the correspondence pertains to reconstruction of the State Capitol following the 1911 fire and to other improvements to the building undertaken at the same time. Addressees include the Trustees of Public Buildings, superintendent of public buildings, state comptroller, heads of state agencies housed in the Capitol, contractors, manufacturers of building materials and furnishings, and publishers of periodicals in which notices to contractors were published.
Correspondence pertains to all aspects of the Capitol reconstruction process, including contract specifications, submission of bids by contractors, awarding and payment of contracts, delivery of materials, progress of and timetable of construction, and approval of completed work.
