Summary:
This series consists of copies of outgoing correspondence from the State Architect, Lewis F. Pilcher about the reconstruction and other improvements of the State Capitol following the 1911 fire. Addressees include the Trustees and Superintendent of Public Buildings, State Comptroller, heads of state agencies housed in the Capitol, contractors, building materials and furnishings manufacturers, and periodicals in which notices to contractors were published. Topics include contract specifications, bids, awarding and payment of contracts, progress and approval of completed work.

Scope and Content Note

These volumes contain letterpress copies of outgoing correspondence created by State Architect Lewis F. Pilcher. The entirety of the correspondence pertains to reconstruction of the State Capitol following the 1911 fire and to other improvements to the building undertaken at the same time. Addressees include the Trustees of Public Buildings, superintendent of public buildings, state comptroller, heads of state agencies housed in the Capitol, contractors, manufacturers of building materials and furnishings, and publishers of periodicals in which notices to contractors were published.

Correspondence pertains to all aspects of the Capitol reconstruction process, including contract specifications, submission of bids by contractors, awarding and payment of contracts, delivery of materials, progress of and timetable of construction, and approval of completed work.
