Scope and Content Note
This series contains daily financial transactions for provisions, supplies, equipment, and purchase or repair expenditures incurred during the course of the school's operations and activities. Chapter 587 of the Laws of 1865 required school administrators to keep complete records of the "business and daily transactions" of the school. Transactions are listed for equipment and utensils relating to farming, broommaking, beadwork, and carpentry, as well as for library and school books, musical instruments, school room furniture, bedding and other houshold items, fuel, clothing, and groceries.
Volume 1 covers transactions from October 1, 1877 through June 27, 1879; volume 2 covers transactions from June 30, 1879 through October 31, 1881. For each transaction the daybooks provide: date; name of vendor; description; quantity; and price.
Check marks next to the entries may indicate an inventory or summarizing process, and transactions are totaled intermittently along the right page margin.
