Administrative History
The establishment of "central rural schools" was authorized in 1914 (Chapter 55), but only one centralization occurred before 1925 when the legislature authorized additional financial benefits for such districts (Chapter 674). These files were maintained by the Assistant Commissioner for Finance and Administrative Services.
Scope and Content Note
Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, maps, pamphlets, minutes of meetings, and clippings related to several studies of school district reorganization conducted by the Department.
The studies were carried out in the following areas: Mamaroneck - Rye Neck; New Rochelle; Greater Plattsburg Area; and Sewanhaka High School Area. In addition, there is a file of clippings and pamphlets related to the controversy of inclusion of Menands School District Number 15 in the North Colonie Central School District.
