Scope and Content Note
This series contains drafts, typescripts, copy edited texts, galleys, page proofs, mounted and unmounted photographs, drawings, tables, and maps for State Museum publications. All or some of these materials may be presented for a specific publication. It is possible that some materials in this series were not published. Only a relatively small and fragmentary sample of Museum publications are represented.
B0578-87: This accretion consists of notes, drafts, galleys, page proofs, some original illustrations, and a few pieces of correspondence relating to James Hall's publications as state geologist and paleontologist and director of the State Museum. Included are the following kinds of items: annual reports of the state geologist; parts of several volumes of the Paleontology of New York; annual reports of the State Museum director; annual reports to the Board of Regents; annual reports of the State Cabinet of Natural History; a few lists of fossils examined; a few letters concerning acquisitions of fossils; unidentified notes by Hall; and a draft list of Hall's published works.
B0578-87A: This accretion consists of pre-publication illustrations for the publication, "An Introduction to the Study of the Brachiopoda Intended as a Handbook for the Use of Students", Part I, Albany, 1894.

Custodial History
These records apparently were returned to the State Museum by Hall's great-granddaughter in 1953. The records were transferred to the Archives by the Geological Survey in September 1985, but were not appraised and accessioned until February-March 1987.
