Topics ranged from engineering problems to advocacy for the Authority. Included are press releases concerning the Thruway from the Department of Public Works that predates the Authority.

Scope and Content Note

Speeches and news releases concerning the construction and operation of the Thruway.

Speeches (1951-1961) include those by the Chairman of the Authority as well as speeches, papers, or presentations by other members of the public relations staff or by Department of Public Works staff. These speeches were made before a variety of professional, community, and public interest groups and cover topics ranging from engineering problems of the Thruway to advocacy for the Authority. Some were published as articles. Included with some is occasional correspondence concerning the presentation or publishing of these speeches. The news release files (1946-1954) include releases from the Department of Public Works, State Comptroller, and the Executive Chamber, as well as the Thruway Authority. Releases pertain to the establishment of the Authority and construction and financing of the Thruway. Included are releases from the Department of Public Works concerning the Thruway, but predating the establishment of the Authority in 1950.
