Scope and Content Note
The blueprints are tracings of maps of land appropriations along the Erie Canal in the counties of Erie, Monroe, Niagara and Orleans. Each map has a title bearing: the name of the person from whom the land was appropriated as well as the location of the land to be appropriated.
Each map includes names of streets, canals, buildings, and other landmarks. A description of the land is provided which indicates the location and area of the land, as well as any streets, railroads, or canals nearby.
This volume also includes a printed signature and date form with elements certifying accuracy by the resident engineer, stating examination for correctness by the State Engineer and Surveyor, and providing filing date in the Office of the State Engineer and Surveyor. The degree of completion of this certification statement varies from map to map.
