Scope and Content Note
This series consists of two volumes that partially index final estimates and accounts, as well as other records created by the Erie Canal Western Division Engineer's Office. In addition to final estimates and accounts, which comprise the bulk of index references, the volumes reference maps, ledgers, field books, and other related records.
The indexes are organized alphabetically by the type of work being done on the canals such as repairs of aqueducts, bridges, and locks; extraordinary repairs; and other related work. Information recorded includes some or all of the following: specific project and geographic coverage (e.g. Bridge at Lyons and Macedon, Gates for Lock #53, etc.); section number or range of sections on which work was done; name of contractor; book and page number references; and remarks.
These indexes were superseded by the New York State Superintendent of Public Works Card Index to Western Division Canal Maps, Plans, Estimates and Related Structures (Series A4290).
