Summary:
This series consists of photographs depicting the excavation and beginning construction of the present State Capitol in Albany, New York. Many of the images in accretion B0701-03 are duplicates of photographs contained in B0701-85, but some later photographs show partially completed first and second floor levels of the Capitol. The series also contains images taken by photographer Thomas Fuller and a landscape plan by Frederick Law Olmsted of the East Park (1898).

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of photographs that depict the excavation and early construction progress on the present State Capitol in Albany, NY. Many of the images in accretion B0701-03 of this series are duplicates of photographs contained in the volumes that comprise B0701-85, but some later photographs show partially completed first and second floor levels of the Capitol. The series also contains images taken by photographer Thomas Fuller and a landscape plan by Frederick Law Olmsted of the East Park (1898).

Custodial History

Cover labels on the volumes indicate these prints were made for John V. L. Pruyn, chairman of the commission which directed the initial phase of the design and construction of the capitol. Pruyn also served at various times as Chancellor of the Board of Regents and as Chairman of the State Board of Charities.
