Scope and Content Note

This series contains information about vacant land owned by the State of New York in Clinton County. The records were compiled pursuant to Chapter 711 of the Laws of 1893 (Section 13), which allowed the Comptroller to advertise a list of the wild, vacant, and forest lands for which the State held title. The Comptroller's notice as to ownership lists towns, lot numbers, a brief description of the land, and the number of acres. The document is signed by the Deputy Comptroller, William J. Morgan. Following this list of land is a notarized memo from the Business Manager of the Plattsburgh Press, J.B. White, stating that the said list was published in his newspaper on several dates and that an account had not been paid.
