Scope and Content Note

The series consists of copies of budget requests made by the commission for fiscal years 1973/74 through 1992/93. The records were created by the commission to justify annual requests for funds; the requests were submitted to the Division of the Budget for review, modification, and approval.

The requests include sections delineating: legal basis for funding; overall mission statement and commission goals and objectives; principal sources of funding and needs; summary of commission's work including reports and studies completed; summary of pending legislation and future projects; statistical breakdowns of positions (salaries, duties), maintenance, consulting and contractual services, supplies and materials, and estimated travel expenses; and tabulations made in summary of expenses (personal service and other categories).

In addition to the budget requests, the files for each fiscal year typically include: correspondence to/from budget examiners and other officials answering/posing questions on the request for appropriations; and some handwritten notes and calculations by commission members of specific elements of the budget request.

Processing Information

These budget requests were apparently originally filed with the Commission's subject and correspondence files, from which they were culled prior to accessioning.
