Scope and Content Note

The series consists of computer printouts which tabulate, in columnar format, an inpatient census for the statewide network of psychiatric centers. The reports are produced by the Office of Mental Health which has professional jurisdiction, supervision, and control over psychiatric centers and mental health research institutes, and is charged with controlling the quality of services to the mentally ill. The records apparently represent reports for one quarter, with transaction dates ranging from April to August 1982.

There are two reports for each facility. The daily inpatient census summary includes ward number; total number of patients assigned to ward; numbers of both male and female patients by ward; number of patients present on ward; number of patients on leave; and numbers of patients on different types of leave. Summary totals are given for each of these categories. An additional on-ward and on-leave census follows the summary. It provides information according to the type of unit or service (e.g.,residential/inpatient, adolescent, children). Information includes the number of patients on the ward; number on leave; number on leave less than 7 days; and number on leave 7 or more days. Each of these categories is also totaled.
