Scope and Content Note

This series consists of clinical laboratory records from Willard State Hospital. Records include results of blood alcohol tests (1954-1968) performed for local law enforcement agencies; water supply tests (1958-1963) for coliform bacilli; lists of surgical specimens received (1947-1961); biopsy reports (1955-1962); a list of six patients tested as possible typhoid carriers; results of blood and spinal fluid tests (1915-1921) apparently performed at the Psychiatric Institute and the Division of Laboratories and Research of the Department of Health; and monthly statistical reports of tests performed (1937-1966).

Custodial History

These records were transferred to the State Archives from Willard Psychiatric Center at the time of its closure in April, 1995.

Access Restrictions

Access to records of identified patients is restricted in accordance with Mental Hygiene Law, Section 33.13, relating to confidentiality of clinical records. Access is permitted under certain conditions upon approval by the Office of Mental Health. State Archives staff will review requests for access to other records in the series and disclose in accordance with the State Freedom of Information Law.
