Scope and Content Note
This fragmentary volume contains color copy tracings on architect linen of maps contained in books number 38 and 42 in the series of State Engineer and Surveyor Map and Plan Books of the Location and Construction of the State's Canal System. The tracings depict the enlarged Erie Canal extending from western Montgomery County to eastern Oneida County. The tracings occasionally contain somewhat less or slightly different information than the original paper maps. The copies do not show the 1834 Holmes Hutchinson survey information included in the originals. The purpose and delineator of the tracings are unknown. The date of the tracings is uncertain; a notation on the first map may indicate that they were created as late as 1940.
