B1517-97: The accretion consists of the annual report of the Education Department of Albion Training School to the commissioner of correction for the 1938/1939 school year. Part one of the report includes an analysis of inmate population charcteristics and a description of the objectives of the program. The bulk of the report is then taken up with a detailed description of the administration of the program including descriptions of the guidance program, supervisions of instruction, curriculum, and proposals for future improvement of the program.
Part two of the report consists of a detailed statistical report including numbers of inmates enrolled in specific classes; percentage of total population enrolled; numbers of hours of instruction; numbers of classes; and numbers of activities. Names of courses and teachers are also given. Additional statistics in part three include numbers of civilians assisting in the program, expenditures for personnel and supplies, and sources and numbers of books available and used.
Part four consists of a descriptive list of educational activities categorized as academic, vocational training, special education, physical education, music, art, and recreation. Part five consists of summaries of three inmate case histories including family histories; inmate's age, appearance, criminal record, mental age, and/or IQ and personality traits and attitudes; inmate's need for training and instruction; comments by teachers; inmate's achievements and areas of improvement; and results of parole and present circumstances.
