Scope and Content Note

This series consists of the personal papers of Senator Warren M. Anderson. The papers include campaign materials, such as speeches, press releases, and letters of endorsements; general correspondence relating to local, personal, legislative, and political affairs; and correspondence from constituents and other public officials. This series is divided into three subseries: Political Activities; General Correspondence; and Constituency File.

Subseries I: Political Activities, 1950-1966: Consists of materials related to each of Anderson's State Senate campaigns; his role in the 1957 and 1961 Binghamton mayoralty campaigns; the 1958 and 1962 Gubernatorial campaigns; and the 1960 Presidential campaign. The materials include political campaign literature, correspondence, letters of endorsement, manuals, handbills, speech materials, press releases and accounts, petitions, financial records, and voting statistics. Some campaign materials include negative publicity about political opponents.

Subseries II: General Correspondence, 1953-1966: Consists of incoming and outgoing letters about legislative, political, local, civic, and personal affairs. Many are from Anderson's Broome County constituents, giving opinions on pending legislation or voicing concern about local issues, such as flooding problems in the Binghamton area. Correspondents of note include Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, Attorney General Lewis Lefkowitz, and Rep. Howard W. Robinson (33rd District, N.Y.).

Subseries III: Constituency File, 1958-1964: Consists of correspondence, memoranda, newspaper accounts, speeches and statements related to matters of special concern involving industries or local governments in Anderson's district.
