Scope and Content Note:

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible website of the New York State Canal Corporation, which became a subsidiary of the New York State Power Authority on January 1, 2017.

The "New York State Canals" website was first captured on December 20, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. This version contains information about and maps of the state's canal system, press releases (2004-2006), notices to mariners (2004-2006), and a Report on the Future of New York State Canals (2005). Also included is information about recreational passes and permits, commercial shipping fees, the Erie Canal Greenway Initiative, and grant programs.

The site was captured again on April 20, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). By this time, the site was identified as the website of the "New York State Canal System." This version contains additional press releases (2005-2008) and updated information about boat launches, canal boats available for hire, the Erie Canal Greenway Initiative, and grant programs.

The version captured on December 23, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office, was identified as the "New York State Canal Corporation" website. It contains newer press releases (2007-2010), notices to mariners (2007-2010), an events calendar (2010-2011), and information about canal-adjacent trailways. It also includes updated information about boat launches, canal boats available for hire, recreational passes and permits, and commercial shipping fees.

The version of the Canal Corporation site captured on December 30, 2019 contains information about the corporation's mission and structure; policies and guidelines (2017-2018) governing the corporation's operations; press releases (2015-2019); and financial statements (2016-2018), internal controls reports (2016-2018), and other financial reports. In addition, it contains information about the Canalway Trail system, the rehabilitation of the DeRuyter Dam, and the corporation's Earthen Embankment Integrity Program.
