Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of publicly accessible main website of the New York State Department of Civil Service.

B2064-07: This accretion consists of a copy of the main Department of Civil Service site produced on December 22, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains information of interest to state and local government job seekers, employees, and human resources professionals: civil service examination guides and resource books, information for state employees affected by layoffs, lists of scheduled state and local government civil service examinations (2006), continuous recruitment examinations for critical state government positions and tentative examination schedules (2006-2007), memoranda and bulletins concerning attendance and leave benefits (2000-2006), and calendars of legal holidays (2005-2007). Also included are press releases (2003-2006), the Title and Salary Plan listing all of the positions in the state's classified civil service and monthly amendments to the plan (2001-2006), information for veterans and people with disabilities seeking state or local government employment. The State Personnel Management Manual for human resources professionals, information about health insurance and other benefits for current and former state employees, and information about workforce and succession planning is also present.

Researchers should note that, owing to the site's formatting and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs considerably from that of the live site.

It contains newer lists of scheduled state and local government civil service examinations (2008), continuous recruitment examinations for critical state government positions and tentative examination schedules (2008), memoranda and bulletins concerning attendance and leave benefits (2000-2008), and calendars of legal holidays (2007-2009). Also included are additional press releases (2003-2008), workforce plans (1989-2008), audit reports of local government civil service systems (2006), information for veterans and people with disabilities seeking state or local government employment, information about health insurance and other benefits for current and former state employees, and publications and other information about workforce and succession planning.

Researchers should note that, owing to the site's formatting and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs considerably from that of the live site and most of the information targeted to state human resources professionals was not captured properly.

It contains information about the department's history and mission, newer press releases (2012-2014), reports (1989-2014), forms, information about the Civil Service Commission, and publications (2008-2012) concerning state careers, workers with disabilities programs, improvements to the State civil service system, the nationally known Civil Service Mural, and other topics. Information for job seekers includes examination guides sand resource books relating to the most frequently given state and local government examinations, scheduled state and local government civil service examinations (2015) and continuous recruitment examinations for critical state government positions, and tentative examination schedules (2015). Information for state employees and retirees concerns employee rights, benefits, salary schedules (2009-2015), layoffs, employment of military veterans and people with disabilities, and returning to work after retirement; plans, forms, and publications (2002-2014) concerning the New York State Health Insurance Program are also included. Information for human resources professionals includes manuals, general information bulletins (1998-2015), and reference materials concerning compensation, recruitment, appointments, attendance and leave, and laws and rules.

Information for state employees concerns employee rights, benefits, layoffs, employment of military veterans and people with disabilities, and returning to work after retirement. Information for human resources professionals includes manuals, general information bulletins (1998-2020), and reference materials concerning compensation, recruitment, appointments, attendance and leave, and laws and rules.

Researchers should note that, owing to the site's formatting and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs considerably from that of the live site. In addition, the navigational links at the top of each page may not work properly. To overcome this problem, return to the home page and then click on the desired link.

Researchers should also note the Eligible List Management System, information about upcoming local government examinations, and most information about the New York State Health Insurance Program could not be copied properly in 2020 and that video recordings of meetings of the State Civil Service Commission were deliberately excluded from this copy on account of their size.
