Administrative History

The Commission to Modernize the Regulation of Financial Services was created by Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008) in May 2007 (Executive Order 15) and continued by Governor David L. Paterson (2008-2010) in June 2008 (Executive Order 9). It was charged with reviewing current financial services statutes, regulations, and policies and proposing legislative and other necessary changes that would both promote competition and the growth of business, and protect consumers and honest businesses from unfair or unethical practices.
