Summary:
This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible website of the Office of Real Property Services, which became part of the Department of Taxation and Finance in mid-2010. In 2011, this site was removed from the live Web and its content was incorporated into the main website of the Department of Taxation and Finance.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible website of the Office of Real Property Services, which became part of the Department of Taxation and Finance in mid-2010. Researchers should note that prior to mid-2008, this site could not be copied successfully.

B2184-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Real Property Services site produced on June 10, 2008, several months after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the office's history, mission, and organizational structure; forms and instructional booklets (1995-2007); staff presentations delivered at various conferences (2006-2008); newsletters (1999-2008); and publications about valuing and assessing real property, tax policy, tax exemptions, and state owned lands (1995-2007). Also present are summaries of real property tax legislation (1997-2007) and local laws and resolutions relating to assessment (2008). It also contains procedural documents (1999-2008) outlining how the office administers various programs; each document contains an overview of the procedure, a contact person, and references the applicable statute and rule. An assessor's manual and instructions for property tax assessors (2008), information about filing complaints concerning the equalization rates for municipalities (2006-2008), information about the School Tax Relief (STAR) program, an assessment guide for property owners (2008), tax map maintenance information by municipality (1998-2006), and a schedule of training classes (2008) are also present. Also included are maps of residential market value (2000-2006) and reassessment activity (2004-2008), a general guide to tax mapping in New York State (2007), press releases (2005-2007), a customer satisfaction survey, (2006), and calendar of events (2008). Meeting agendas and other materials created by the State Board of Real Property Services (2006-2008), the Real Property Tax Administration Committee (1999-2008), and the Real Property System Committee minutes (2002-2008), as well as Training Governance committee group minutes (2004-2007) are also present.

B2184-10: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Real Property Services Web site produced on December 17, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains background information about the office and additional forms and instructional booklets (1995-2010), staff presentations (2006-2010), newsletters (1999-2008), publications (1995-2010), summaries of real property tax legislation (1997-2010), and procedural documents (1999-2010). Also included are an updated assessor's manual and assessment instructions (2010), an updated schedule of training classes (2010), summaries of local laws and resolutions relating to assessment (2010), information about filing complaints relating to municipal equalization rates (2000, 2006-2010), and tax map maintenance information by municipality (1998-2010). Additional maps of residential market value (2000-2008) and reassessment activity (2004-2010), press releases (2007-2009), and meeting agendas and other materials created by the State Board of Real Property Services (2008-2010) are also present.

Researchers should note that in 2011, this site was removed from the live Web; its content was incorporated into the main website of the Department of Taxation and Finance.
