Administrative History

Senator Eric T. Schneiderman, a Democrat, was first elected to the Senate in 1998. He represented the 31st Senate District, which consists of all or part of the Manhattan neighborhoods of the Upper West Side, Manhattan Valley, Washington Heights, Fort George, and Washington Creek and all or part of the Bronx neighborhoods of Spuyten Duyvil, Marble Hill, South Riverdale, Riverdale, North Riverdale, and Feldston.

Senator Schneiderman served as Deputy Minority Leader (2003-2006) and Deputy Majority Leader for Policy (2009-2010). He also chaired the Standing Committee on Codes (2009-2010) and the Select Committee to Investigate the Circumstances Surrounding the Conviction of Hiram Monserrate (2009) and served as a member of the State Commission on Sentencing Reform (2007-2009). He was elected Attorney General in November 2010 and assumed office on January 1, 2011. He resigned from office in May 2018.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the official website of Senator Eric T. Schneiderman. Researchers should note that in 2009, each Senator was allotted space on the main Senate website and the official sites of individual Senators were removed from the live Web.

B2256-07: This accretion consists of an archival copy of Senator Schneiderman's official website produced on December 26, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains biographical information, photographs, a district map, constituent mailers (2005), and brochures concerning domestic violence, Rockefeller drug law reform, the 2006 New York City parking calendar, and tenant rights (English and Spanish).

B2256-08: This accretion consists of a copy of Senator Schneiderman's official website produced on June 12, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains biographical information, photographs, a district map, a constituent mailer (2005), and press releases (2008) concerning same-sex marriage, Rockefeller drug law reform, and other matters of interest to Senator Schneiderman's constituents. Brochures concerning domestic violence, Rockefeller drug law reform, the 2006 New York City parking calendar, and tenant rights (English and Spanish are also included.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly in mid-2008. In addition, some of the navigational links do not work properly. However, identical sets of navigational links appear at the top and the bottom of each page.
