Scope and Content Note
This register was created by the Great Meadow Prison physician for the purpose of documenting deaths of inmates as required by Chapter 382 of the Laws of 1889.
Personal information for each inmate includes name; inmate number; length of time at Great Meadow; length of time in United States if foreign; sex; race; marital status; date of birth; age; occupation; birthplace; parent names; place of burial, cremation, or removal; undertaker; and date filed. Medical certificate of death information includes date of death; certificate of attendance; time of death; cause of death; contributory causes; where the disease or injury was contracted; duration of condition; laboratory; name of operation performed; autopsy; and signature of M.D. or coroner.
