Scope and Content Note

This series consists of publicity records that were created as a commemoration to the opening of the new Lake Champlain Bridge. The content of the records spans the history of the original Crown Point Bridge from its design to its demolition and gives an overview of the construction and opening of the new bridge.

Records include the following: "Lake Champlain Bridge Historic Resource Guide, prepared by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Bureau of Historic Sites, for New York State Department of Transportation (2011). The Historic Resource Guide is a finding aid and an annotated inventory that documents the location of research materials pertaining to the Crown Point Bridge in both public and private repositories throughout New York and Vermont.

"Spanning the Decades: The Lake Champlain Bridge Story," prepared by the Lake Champlain Maritimes Museum for New York State Department of Transportation (2012). "More Than Steel: The Lake Champlain Bridge Story," is 30-minute documentary film (on DVD), funded jointly by the New York State Department of Transportation, Vermont Agency of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration. "More Than Steel: The Lake Champlain Bridge Story," 6 short topical films for museum media players (on DVD). "The Lake Champlain Bridge Emergency Replacement Project," (white paper), copyrighted 2012 by New York State Department of Transportation. "Lake Champlain Bridge Oral Histories," an audio CD #4 of 4.

B1417 Lake Champlain Bridge Commission Construction, Maintenance, and Administrative Records of the Lake Champlain (or Crown Point) Bridge and the Rouses Point Bridge, 1920-1987 contains records that deal with the construction, administration, and maintenance of both the Crown Point and Rouses Point bridges. These records span the period from the early 1920s to the time the Commission was abolished in 1987.
