Administrative History

The Division of Library Development seeks to develop, strengthen, and improve library services to the people who use New York's academic, public, school, and special libraries. The Division provides statewide leadership and advisory services, and administers Federal and State grant programs that provide aid for library services.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of annual reports submitted by public libraries and library systems to the Division of Library Development. The reports contain data on library collections, services, transactions, staffing, public services information, operating budgets, capital funds, and other aspects of library operation and development. Report data was used to publish an annual statistical report, "Public and Association Libraries Statistics." Early years of the report included only selected information from the annual reports. After 1992, all significant information from individual library and system reports was incorporated into the publication as well as entered into the national database, "Bibliostat." Individual reports after 1992 are no longer retained.
