Scope and Content Note
This series consists of photographic images collected by the Newark State School (later Newark Developmental Center). The images document daily activities of staff and patients, as well as special occasions.
Images include scenes of recreation activities such as parties, sporting events, and field trips for patients and staff officials; classes; staff and patients in groups and individually; meetings; dining; ceremonies; patient therapy and rehabilitation groups; receptions; holiday celebrations; entertainment; and visitors. Also documented are interiors and exteriors of buildings, grounds, and facilities, including maintenance, construction, destruction of buildings, and equipment. Many of the images are not fully identified; some are identified and dated.
Record types include black-and-white photographs, black-and-white negatives, color snapshots and enlargements, and 35mm color slides.
