Administrative History

The Amphibian and Reptile Atlas Project (also known as the Herpetological Atlas Project) was a ten-year survey which took place between 1990 and 1999. This project was initiated with the goal of surveying and documenting the distribution of herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles) in New York State. Staff members of the Department of Environmental Conservation's Bureau of Wildlife served as project administrators. Survey data, collected primarily by volunteers, was compiled by project staff into a database and used to create maps of species population distributions.
