Administrative History

Ronald W. Pedersen served in the office of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller as a Program Associate and later as Assistant Secretary for Program.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of files of Ronald W. Pedersen, which include unpublished organizational studies of Executive Branch agencies, as well as briefing papers and publicity materials for Nelson A. Rockefeller's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns.

Unpublished reports include a draft analysis of "State Administrative Organizations," circa 1958; "Functions and Activities of New York State Government Agencies in the Executive Branch," 1959; "Taxation and the Business climate in New York State," 1959; and a management study of the Division of the Budget, 1967. Other documents are draft reorganization plans for executive agencies, circa 1958 and 1967, the latter including proposals for a Department of Community Affairs and an Office of Urban Affairs.

Other materials pertain to Governor Rockefeller's reelection campaigns of 1962, 1966, and 1970. They include typewritten summaries of achievements of the Rockefeller administration, prepared for William J. Ronan, Secretary to the Governor; two versions of "The Rockefeller Republican Record, " circa 1962, published by the Republican State Committee; and many campaign brochures. Documents relating to Rockefeller's unsuccessful presidential bid in 1964 include a published campaign research kit, typewritten notes on his accomplishments as governor, and a draft "Program to Advance America." The latter two items were prepared for or by William J. Ronan. There are similar materials for another presidential bid in 1968, as well as copies of a few published articles about Governor Rockefeller.
