Administrative History
The New York State Temporary Commission of Investigation was formed in 1958 under Chapter 989 of the laws of 1958. This chapter gave the Commission the duty and power to conduct investigations in connection with the execution and enforcement of state laws affecting organized crime and racketeering; the conduct of state and local public officers and employees; and any matter concerning the public peace, public safety and public justice.
Scope and Content Note
This series contains public and private reports created by the New York State Temporary Commission of Investigation. Public reports were published and publicly disseminated by the commission. These reports summarize individual investigations; state major findings and conclusions; and contain recommended actions. Private reports are unpublished reports that were sent only to the official who requested the given investigation and were generally made on investigations that did not attract media attention or produce results meriting a formal, published report.
