Scope and Content Note

This series consists of records documenting building projects, improvements and rehabilitation projects, and maintenance and repairs undertaken by the Long Island State Park Commission on parkways, bridges, and within parks at various locations in the Long Island region. Project files include project proposal contracts, contract bids, construction specifications, correspondence, land surveys, architectural drawings and plans, agreements, appraisals, estimates, working drawings, photographs, and memorandums.

Projects include creation and maintenance of boardwalks, toll booths, swimming pools, administration buildings, bathhouses, beach shops, parkways, and police barracks. Locations represented in the records include Sunken Meadow State Park, Heckscher State Park, Caumsett State Park, Montauk Point State Park, Bethpage State Park, Wildwood State Park, Massapequa State Park, Valley Stream State Park, Hither Hills State Park, Gardiner's Island, Indian Island Park, and Orient Beach.

Original copies of these records are held by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Long Island Parks Regional Archives facility in Oyster Bay, New York.

Only Boxes 1-3 of twenty-one boxes of original records were digitized for inclusion in this series. Original records, including those not digitized, are at the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Long Island Parks Regional Archives facility.
