Administrative History
In 1996, the Department of Environmental Conservation's Environmental Indicators Quality Project team was charged with identifying potential environmental indicators that reflected the state of human health, the environment, and natural resources in the state. From there, the team would align those indicators with the level of effort by the agency to clearly measure the impact of agency work and identify areas where additional effort was needed. As part of that work, the team also identified economic incentives to help strengthen motivations to improve the environment.
Scope and Content Note
This series contains project files and studies documenting the agency's effort to create measurable objectives in the field of environmental protection and restoration in the 1990s. These environmental indicators were created by the Environmental Indicators Quality Project Team. The team's final report, memorandums, correspondence, studies, and research are included in the series. Records also include publications and reports from within the department, the Environmental Protection Agency, other states, and environmental organizations regarding economic incentives for environmental protection.
