Scope and Content Note
This series documents the work of a temporary commission authorized to survey and determine the need for special services in the village of Saranac Lake and surrounding area for people with disabilities, particularly in relation to medical and educational services; occupational therapy; vocational guidance; training; and placement. The commission was also responsible for ascertaining whether state financial support for the operation and maintenance of schools or agencies furnishing services to people with disabilities was warranted. The commission, established by Chapter 805 of the Laws of 1951, submitted this report detailing their findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature in 1953.
Custodial History
This report was acquired by the New York State Library in 1952 and was transferred to the New York State Archives in 2010.
