Summary:
This series consists of a list of final decrees issued by the Chancellor that were docketed, at the request of any party involved in a case, when a decree required a money payment by the losing party. Information recorded includes name of party against whom decree was rendered; his county and place of residence; his title, trade, or profession; amount of damages, debt, or cost decreed; date and time of docketing; name of all parties involved in the case; and when (if) decree was discharged, reversed, or vacated.

Arrangement

Alphabetic by name of party against whom the decree was rendered, then chronological by date and time of docketing.

Administrative History

Revised Statutes of 1829, Part III, Chapter 1, Title 2, Article 3, Section 93-94 required the Chancery Register, Assistant Register, and Clerks to keep a docket listing, at the request of any party, final enrolled decrees that directed payment of any debt, damages, costs, or other sum of money.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a list of final decrees issued by the Chancellor that were docketed, at the request of any party involved in a case, when a decree required a money payment by the losing party. Information recorded includes name of party against whom decree was rendered; his county and place of residence; his title, trade, or profession; amount of damages, debt, or cost decreed; date and time of docketing; name of all parties involved in the case; and when (if) decree was discharged, reversed, or vacated.

Entries in the docket are arranged in columns. The law required the following information to be recorded: name of the party against whom the decree was rendered; his county and place of residence; his title, trade, or profession (usually blank); the amount of damages, debt, or cost decreed; the date and time of docketing; the name of all parties involved in the case; and when (if) the decree was reversed, discharged, or vacated.
