Scope and Content Note

This series consists of Chancellor Reuben H. Walworth's personal notes on cases in Chancery.

The form of the notes and the information they contain varies among cases. Appearing for all cases are the names of the parties and their solicitors and the date the case was heard by the Chancellor. Some notes contain no additional information. Others contain in varying detail a short description of cases, the points made by solicitors, and relevant quotes and citations from reported cases or authorites. The Chancellor's personal comments on a case sometimes also appear. The final disposition of a case, however, is very rarely recorded.

Custodial History

The Court of Appeals placed these records on deposit at the Historical Documents Collection, Queens College, from 1973-1982.
